Mark Cashen shared with us last Sunday that he believes "religion" is the greatest curse on all people. "Religion kills" he said, and I must agree. In Luke 23: 55 - 24: 12 we read of Jesus’ resurrection. What stood out to me was that the women mentioned were greatly affected by Jesus’ death. They prepared spices & fragrant oils to embalm the body of Jesus. It was only when they were able to get to the tomb three days later that they realised their efforts were unnecessary. The angels reminded them of what Jesus said just after Peter had proclaimed Him to be the Christ. (Read Lk 24: 7-8) Religion dulls the spirit so that the soul (mind, emotions & will) takes over and we do things that we "think" is a good idea, or because of sorrow, guilt, unforgiveness etc, we "follow our heart" etc. The women mentioned were doing things from a traditional and emotional basis. It was only when they were reminded of what Jesus said, their spirit was "activated" and went and testified to the disciples that Jesus had done what He said He would do. The disciples, also reacting out of the soul realm, thought "their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them". "Resurrection" does not compute to the soul. Jesus’ attitude to people like this was "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe..." He then went on to "open their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures". (vs 45) The Word of God motivated, enthused, and captivated them to continual worship, rejoicing and sharing in all things. I trust that the Word of God will be your inspiration to do the will of the Father. Don’t get caught up in the soul/religious realm that stifles and kills what the Spirit wants us to enjoy. Praising & Blessing God Ray & Marie.
Thought for the WeekTake a look at the influences in your life today, for they’re doing two things. (1) Moulding you & (2) Motivating you. If a constant drip can wear away a rock, then the wrong influences can undermine you little by little. But you’re not a rock, you can move! Bob Gass
