‘Be still and know that I am God’
How difficult that seems to be for so many of us!
Be still ....
Does that mean I am not to do anything? Does that mean I have to sit still for a given period of time? It may! But more so I believe it means that I need to have a quiet heart before God.
We live in a world of noise, activity, interruption, business, demands, chaos ... a lifestyle that frequently demands our time and attention. God gives us an instruction ... ‘be still’. Even amidst everything that goes on around us we can have those times of ‘being still’. Choosing to turn off the TV or computer and turning on a good praise/worship CD. But the ‘being still’ comes more from our ongoing relationship with the Lord. It means that even when there is noise etc, etc, etc we can have that peaceful inner stillness that intimacy with God has produced in our lives.
‘Know that I am God’ ...
The absolute assurance that comes from spending time with God – in prayer, in the Word, in worship – means that regardless of world affairs and any personal crisis that’s occurring we know that God is still on the throne! Taking time out with God is the only way to get to know Him. The only way we get to know our mate, or a good friend, is by spending time with them, talking with them, making them a priority in our lives. Why should God get any less?!
Get to know God ...... and then ‘be still and know that I am God’.
