Marie was reading to me from Psalm 105, which gives a concise account of Gods love and protection over His chosen people, Israel. There were two areas that sparked my attention.
Vs19 mentions Until the time came to fulfill His word, the Lord tested Josephs character. This was the very one whom God had in mind to exalt to the second highest position in all of Egypt. Joseph didnt know that. He had no idea what the future held. All he knew was that he was innocent of the charges brought against him and didnt deserve to be in prison. But God was testing his character!
And just as every part of the plan for the building of the Temple in Solomons day was first given to David and was written out under the direction of the Lord to him, so we see the structure of the Church was in the mind and heart of God, taught by Jesus and given to the Holy Spirit to implement, which began on the day of Pentecost at the outpouring of the Holy Spirit into the lives of the 120 in the upper room. Since then more and more have been added to the Church via the same means.
With the gifts and abilities given by the Spirit to accomplish the work of building the Church, we hear the words of David as if being spoken to us. "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Dont be afraid or discouraged by the size of the task, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the LORD [the Church, His body] is finished correctly." [1 Chron. 28:20]
David then gives out of his own private treasure to ensure there is sufficient material to get started, which is exactly what Jesus did for us. He gave Himself and He gave gifts to us out of His abundance, [Eph. 4]. David then challenges the people with "Now then, who will follow my example? Who is willing to give offerings to the LORD today?" The response was that the people gave willingly, freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord and to the construction of the Temple, at which King David was filled with joy. [1 Chron 29:1-9]
Im sure that the Lord is filled with joy when He sees His people willingly and wholeheartedly giving of themselves to the structure of the Church, relying on the Holy Spirit for wisdom and understanding enabling them to do the work, using the gifts given to them, ensuring that it is the most glorious and wonderful edifice, an exemplification of the greatness of God, Himself.
Take time to read Davids prayer of praise [1 Chron 29:10-20] and let it become our prayer of praise for all that the LORD is doing for us/ for the church.
I pray that Your Church will arise to its full strength and potential, bringing honour to your Name, Lord.
